WF Mortgage, after numerous delays, called me and said they didn't think Lisa was qualified for a VA loan because she was on the mortgage for the CO house. That isn't how it works, and they should have pulled her eligibility a long time ago because the VA needs time to do their own inspections and such. The loan officer admitted he wasn't sure about the eligibility because he didn't do many VA loans. I think they delayed on purpose because they don't want to deal with the VA conditions and want to push one of their products, instead.
Also, they wanted me to produce a letter from my company stating that I was moving at the behest of my employer. I told them that's not the case. I work from home for a global company which has offices in most states and many countries. The loan officer couldn't wrap his mind around this concept and kept telling me you can't just move and you have to be a reasonable distance from your employer. He couldn't seem to understand that it would be my primary residence, and the house we have here in CO is just a rental. I told him repeatedly it was a personal move and I would not even ask my employer for such a letter. He said he was just the messenger and it was the underwriter's requirement. I told him it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard, said "see ya" and hung up!
The seller already gave us two extensions and it's clear they won't do any more, so that deal is most likely dead. Now I have to work with the title attorney to ensure I get my $3,000 earnest deposit back. I threatened WF with canceling my bank and credit card accounts if they don't give back my loan app fee, too.
Many years ago, a lender tried to tell me I had to give a written statement that I'd reenlist in the AF in order to secure a loan. I told them to stick it, too, because in the civilian world, there's no such garantee of employment.

Great Precis, David! If I can get out from under my equity account, I will leave WF too.
